7. GREETINGS FROM ASBURY PARK (1973)
... und da war er plötzlich, die Zukunft des Rock'n'Roll, Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen aus Long Branch, New Jersey. Auf "Greetings From Asbury Park" musste sich Springsteen noch selbst finden - und seinen Sound. Er wollte in den Texten hörbar alles reinkriegen, was nur irgendwie geht: "Madman drummers bummers Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat / In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way in to his hat / With a boulder on my shoulder feeling kinda' older/ I tripped the merry go round With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing the calliope crashed to the ground."
Die Fülle teils absurder Charaktere (madman drummers, teenage diplomats, the calliope, Go Kart Mozart, little Early Pearly) erinnert dabei an Bob Dylan. "Greetings From Asbury Park" ist ein tolles Rock'n'Roll-Album. Nicht Springsteens bestes, aber eine große Ansage eines jungen Mannes, der alles wollte und etwas später alles umkrempelte.
